[2001] H50 ... H77
I warmly thank Christian Poisson for inviting me to judge the present tourney. 13 helpmates in two, 10 in three and 5 in more than 3 moves took part, all correct; despite the high quality of this web magazine, the average level of the participating problems was not.
Before the award, some brief notes about a few interesting problems : |
The strategy is not very profound but I enjoyed the play with three promotions and very good use of the WQ. Perfect construction.
Good reciprocal chain of square vacation by White motivated by the need to control the BK's field and to vacate the mating square. Unfortunately the black play is not so interesting in comparison to that of White.
Reversal of the black moves which well fits in the interchange of functions between the thematic white pieces.
Nice white battery creation on two different lines. The pa5 could be saved by moving the pb2 to d2 and the Bb6 to a7.
Anticipatory black selfpin with reversal of the white moves ending with model mates and delayed follow-my-leader; unfortunately the latter motif is not very convincing and it only is merely decorative in the solution starting with 1.Rc4 because the Rc7 could be placed elsewhere along the c-file.
Good Zajic theme with pin mates but it has to be remarked the fact that the thematic white pawns are immovable in the initial position which is against the purity and spirit of the theme.
Nice miniature with chameleon-echo mates and good interchange of functions between the white Bishops.
Another appealing chameleon-echo mates here with WK tempo moves.
Many thanks to Mario for his award, which will remain open until 01-09-2002.
Claims to Christian Poisson.
